A collaboration of Connecticut health care organizations has been formed to provide the state’s physicians with useful information to help manage their patients’ health care quality. The short-term goals of the collaboration are to aggregate paid claims and HEDIS data at the individual physician level, to assess rates for quality measures compared to benchmark data, and to provide the information to physicians in order to assist in maintaining or improving the quality of care for their patients. A long-term goal is to develop a statewide health information exchange to enable excellent patient care and quality improvement. Ultimately, this system will utilize a variety of types of data for performance assessment and quality improvement. These include data from electronic medical records, patient surveys, laboratory, pharmacy, and claims data.
